In 1994, Buckshire Corporation—which supplies animals to laboratories—was the site of a PETA undercover investigation that resulted in government sanctions. Now, Buckshire's last remaining chimpanzee prisoners have been moved to a good sanctuary. We are even happier because Buckshire will no longer supply any chimpanzees to laboratories!
Annie enjoys the sun in the outdoor play area of her new home.
The seven chimpanzees are now in safe hands and are enjoying their new lives. Ranging in age from 25 to 35 years old, Annie, Foxie, Jamie, Jody, Missy, Negra, and Burrito spent much of their lives in small metal cages in Buckshire's windowless basement with nothing to see or do.
Our undercover investigation inside Buckshire's facility revealed that 42 chimpanzees were kept in cramped, undersized cages in the basement. The investigation spurred the U.S. government to issue sanctions against Buckshire—including a $25,000 fine—for violations of the federal Animal Welfare Act.
Thanks to the generosity of Vanguard Society members like you, PETA is helping cover the cost of these chimpanzees' care. They will be able to enjoy each others' company, sunlit rooms, a loft, a catwalk for climbing, and an outdoor play area—and they will never again have to fear being separated from their friends or locked up in cramped, barren cages.
You have made it possible for PETA to help the newly freed hostages of Buckshire live happily ever after!
